The Uganda Badminton Association has introduced a fresh version of the game called Air Badminton.
The Air Badminton is played in open spaces on various surfaces as clay, Sand, concrete and grass. The court is also different from the normal courts.
The development was confirmed at the launch that was held at Sharing Youth Center in Kampala on Tuesday, 15th December.
Simon Mugabi, the Chief Executive officer of Uganda Badminton Association and National Council of Sports assistant general secretary David Katende Ssemakula attended the launch.
Mugabi says that they are to train technical officials and umpires to help in spreading of the game to various parts of the country
“We are to train technical officials and umpires to help in spreading of the game to various parts of the country.” We are to also organise tournaments across the country.”
Of course, the rules of the game are slightly different from the ones of the normal Badminton.”
Katende hailed the Uganda Badminton Association for the initiative
“I take this opportunity to thank the Uganda Badminton Association for the new version of the game. As National Council of Sports, we shall continue to support the growth of the game in the country.”
Players like Brian Kasirye will start national wide training in Eastern Region districts of Mbale and Busia.
It will also spread to West Nile in Arua City and Western in Mbarara.
