Football isn’t real life. It is a separate world packed with hammy emotions and big fat wet notes of drama, always straining to mean a great deal more than it does. But it can provide a little inspiration along the way, another kind of story.

Uganda Hippos in the AFCON U20 semi-final, with a likable team led by the Morley Byekwaso, has exactly this and they will face off with Tunisia for a place in the final on Monday night at the Stadium Olympique de Nouakchott in Mauritania at 10:30 EAT.

At their debut tournament, Byekwaso’s young, unheralded bunch of players have gone further than those before who were considered more obviously talented, more golden, more authentic.

Uganda reached the semifinal for the first time after beating Burkina Faso 5-3 on penalties following a barren draw in 120 minutes.

Custodian Jack Komakech was the hero saving Yacoub Djiga’s penalty while Derrick Kakooza, Joseph Kizza Bukenya, Najib Yiga and Ivan Bogere scored the penalties.

“We are going to face a very tricky side, they are a good team and superb at passing and combination plays.” We just have to utilize our chances if we are to progress to the finals.” Stated Hippos head coach

Tunisia on the other hand confirmed a place in the semifinals after overcoming their neighbors Morocco 4-1 on penalties following a goalless draw in normal time.

The Tunisians will be playing in the semifinal stage of the tournament for a third time having previously reached the final four in 1977 and 1985.

The other second semifinal will be a West African affair between Ghana and Gambia. Gambia cruised past Central Africa Republic 3-0 while Ghana eliminated Cameroon.
The final will be played on Saturday, 6th March.
