AFCON: Senegal, Guinea settle for barren stalemate

Senegal 0-0 Guinea

Senegal and Guinea played out a goalless draw at the Stade Kouekong Omsnisport in Baffousam and inched closer to the knock out stages.

Both teams came into the game with three points having won their opening games and a win would automatically confirm the winning team in the last 16’s.

It was a dull encounter that saw both sides fail to create enough goal scoring opportunities.

Guinea had the best chance to score in the first half but surprisingly striker Morgan Guilavogui failed to put the ball in net after going head to head with the keeper from a counter attack in 30th minute.

Senegal missed the services of Idrissa Gueye and Fade Ballo Toure who are tested positive for COVID-19.

PSG defender Amad Diallo had a chance to break the deadlock of Senegal but his header from a corner kick was parried away by goalkeeper Ali Keita in the 56th minute.

The Lions of Teranga then came close through Bouna Sarr 10 minutes later.

Sarr was on the receiving end of a Sadio Mane pass from a counter attack, beat his marker and instead blasted the ball far wide.

Senegal will face Malawi in the final group game on Tuesday 18th while Guinea will play Zimbabwe on the same day.
