The Confederation of African Football has appointed Gambian officials for the AFCON 2021 Qualifier between Uganda VS Burkina Faso to be played on on 22nd, March, 2021.
Bakary Papa Gassama has been named as the centre referee and will be assisted by Abdul Aziz Bollel Jawo and Sulayman Sosseh as the first and second assistant respectively.
Maudo Jallow will work as the fourth official while Jean-Didier Masamba Malunga from DR.Congo is the Commissioner
The COVID-19 officer is James Sekajugo from Uganda.
Briefly on Gassama
He became a FIFA referee in 2007. He officiated at the 2012 Olympic tournament, in which he was the fourth official for the gold medal match between Mexico and Brazil. He also served at several Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, as well as the 2014 and 2018 FIFA World Cup tournaments.
In 2015, he officiated the Africa Cup of Nations Final match between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire. He has won the best referee of the year accolade on the continent for several occasions.
Uganda is currently second in group B with 7 points in four games played so far and will need a win against the current log leaders Burkina Faso (8) to advance to the continental showpiece in Cameroon early next year.
