AFCON 2021: Nigeria qualify for knock out stages after 3-1 victory over Sudan

Nigeria became the third team to book a place in the AFCON last 16s after beating Sudan 3-1 at the Roumde Adjia Stadium, Garoua.

Forwards Samuel Chukwueze, Taiwo Awoniyi and Moses Simon scored the three goals for the Super Eagles.

Chukwueze opened the scores as early as the third minute of the game before Awoniyi made it 2-0 in the 45th minute with a close range header.

A minute into the second half, Simon made it 3-0 with a superb solo effort.

Sudan reduced the deficit with a penalty scored by Walieldin Khidir following Ola Aina’s foul on Mustafa Karshoum in the 70th minute.

The Super Eagles joined hosts Cameroon and Morocco as the teams that have already confirmed places in the knock stages.

Nigeria have now collected six points in two games and will conclude their Group D campaign with a game against Guinea Bissau on Wednesday 19th.

Sudan will take on Egypt on the same day.
