Achema lone strike hands Tusker a ‘crucial’ win over Wazito FC

Ugandan offensive midfielder Robert Achema scored the lone goal as Tusker FC earned a much needed win against KPL newbies Wazito FC at Camp Toyoyo.

Achema found the back of the net with only 10 minutes played finishing off a wonderful spadework from his compatriot Mathew Odong.

This was the first match for the Brewers new coach Robert Matano who was on a return to the Tusker dug out replacing the sacked Sam Timbe early this week.

Tusker also came close to finding a second through Odong in the 20th minute and Hashim Sempala on two occasions, most notably in the 13th minute.

Odong was booked for foul play on Wazito’s David Oswe in the 33rd minute.

Wazito also came close to levelling matters with a host of decent goal attempts in second half.

Robert Achema who also had a chance to find himself a brace but failed to stretch the lead, was withdrawn for Boniface Muchiri in the 67th minute.

The slim victory was Tusker’s first in 5 attempts and sees them move to the 13th position with 13 points garnered from 12 outings. They sit one point behind 12th placed Wazito FC.

Tusker will play against SoNy Sugar in their subsequent league fixture at Ruaraka stadium on Sunday 29th April.

Elsewhere, Chemelil Sugar came from 2 goals behind to hold Gor Mahia in a 2-2 stalemate putting a halt to K’oghalo’s 5 match winning streak.

At Mbaraki stadium, William Wadri scored the first goal in Bandari’s 2-2 draw against Zoo Kericho. His goal was orchestrated by Fred Nkata in the 11th minute.
