Gaddafi FC 1-0 Mbarara City
Gaddafi FC almost failed make advantage of a numerical advantage against a 10-man Mbarara City side in a game played at the Gaddafi Arena in Jinja.
It required a 95th minute penalty scored by skipper Andrew Waiswa for the Soldier Boyz to clinch a hard fought 1-0 victory.
The penalty was awarded after second half substitute Henry Musisi clipped Sheif Batte in the penalty area in the fourth minute of the added seven minutes.
Mbarara City played more than 30 minutes with a player less after their skipper Solomon Okwalinga was sent off in the 58th minute.
Okwalinga was shown a red card for a second bookable offense on James Otim just outside the box.
Gaddafi had a lion’s share of goal scoring attempts especially in the first half.
Striker Brian Kalumba had two keeper to beat situations but failed to break the deadlock.
His first attempt was in the 9th minute which was brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Martin Elungat.
In the 36th minute, the Vipers on-loan striker then failed to perfectly strike the ball and his feeble strike when straight to Elungat.
Gaddafi thought they had taken the lead at the stroke of halftime through Batte’s header from Hassan Musana’s free kick but it was ruled out for offside.
The victory took Gaddafi to the 8th place with 24 points while Mbarara City remained in the relegation zone in the 14th place with only 16 points.
Both sides will shift focus to the Stanbic Uganda Cup with Mbarara City hosting URA FC on Thursday 24th February.
Gaddafi will visit Police at Lugogo on Friday 25th February.
