2022 edition of Masaza cup to be kicked off by Buddu and Mawogola

Masaza Cup defending Champions Buddu will kick off the 2022 edition at home in a group B game against Mawogola on 25th June.

The opening game will be graced by his Majesty the Kabaka of Buganda Kingdom Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II at the Masaka Recreation grounds.

Meanwhile on the same day, the Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga will officially launch the competition.

Buddu prevailed to their second Masaza Cup trophy with a 2-0 win over Buwekula in the 2021 edition final that was played at St.Mary’s Stadium in Kitende this year.

They are under the stewardship of Steven Bogere with Andy Ssali as his assistant.

Mawogola on the other hand appointed Michael Kabali as their head coach, replacing Jamadah Magaasi who served in the previous regime.

Kabali will be assisted by former Express FC and Tooro United captain Steven Luswata who will make his debut in football management. Luswata is also played for Gomba in the prestigious competition.

During the two years of Covid-19 turmoil, the games in the competition have been played at the Njeru Technical centre but this year each county (Ssaza) will host at their respective home grounds.

Unlike the previous editions were the 18 Counties were group into four groups this year they are in three groups.
