The 2022 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) will be played in June/July as per reports from Algeria which is the tournament host nation.
The 2022 CHAN tournament was initially slated for January but has been pushed to summer to necessitate the CAF calendar that has already been affected by the Coronavirus outbreak on the continent.
Mohamed Saad, the Secretary General of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) confirmed the development in an interview with a radio station in Algeria,
“We recently received correspondence from the African football confederation which asked us to postpone the CHAN 2022 to the summer of 2022, after AFCON 2022 was pushed to January 22. CAF has suggested organizing this competition between June and July, but we will be making a final decision shortly in consultation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports.”
It should be noted that last week, CAF announced that the 2020 CHAN will be held in January 2021 while 2021 AFCON was postponed to January 2022 with both tournaments to be played in Cameroon.
The 2022 CHAN tournament will be the seventh edition of the competition eligible to only players who feature for local clubs in their native countries.
