2019 Airtel Masaza Cup officially launched

The 15th edition of the Airtel Masaza Cup competition has officially been launched today, 20th May at Bulange Mengo.

First Deputy Prime minister of the Buganda Kingdom Twaha Kawaasi presided over the function.

Minister for youths, leisure and sports in the Kingdom Henry Ssekabembe, head of branding and marketing Airtel Uganda Remmy Kisakye and Betina Mugalambi from Centenary bank all were in attendance.

Kawaase called upon all the fans from respective counties to give support to their teams in various aspects

“We have gathered here to officially launch this year’s Masaza cup tournament. I call upon everyone in the respective counties to give support to their teams so as we have a successful football event.”

“I would like to confirm that his Majesty the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II will preside over the opening game between Ssingo and Ssese on 1st June at Mityana Saza grounds.”

On behalf of Airtel Uganda, Remmy Kisakye confirmed that they will support the prestigious tourney with shs400 million this year

“We have spent three years as the title sponsors of the competition and every year we support the competition with shs400 million. This competition has been a birth place for many stars on the national team.”

Centenary bank gave a financial support of shs90 million this year and Ngule breweries Shs51 million. At the function the 18 participating teams each received 5 million to help in preparations, two sets of Jerseys and three balls.

This prestigious tournament has given rise to many stars like Tony Mawejje, Diego Hamis Kiiza, Mike Serumaga, Robert Odongkara, Brian Umony, Joseph Ochaya, Pius Wangi, Yasser Mugerwa, Miya Farouk and Godfrey Walusimbi.
