Vipers humble Bright Stars to close in on KCCA

Goals from Steven Mukwala, Tito Okello and Halid Lwaliwa were enough to inspire Vipers to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Bright Stars at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende to cut the gap at the top.

The home side who hit an early lead in the 6th minute when youngster Aziz Kayondo found Steven Mukwala inside the box and the striker perfectly tapped past Benson Wagima. Mukwala’s goal was also the difference at halftime.

Two minutes after the recess, Tito Okello doubled the hosts’ advantage with a brilliant header off Tom Masiko’s free kick.

Fred Kajoba made a double change in the 53rd minute introducing on Moses Okot and Kokas Opejo for Samuel Ssekito and Alfred Onek.

With only 15 minutes to normal time, defender Halid Lwaliwa put the cherry icing on the cake when he superbly headed from a tight angle off another free kick from the day’s man of the man Tom Masiko.

Bright Stars introduced on Henry Kiwanuka for Augustine Kacancu for their final change. Vipers withdrew Karim Niyizigimana, Tito Okello and Steven Mukwala for Rahmat Ssenfuka, Abraham Ndugwa and Hamis Diego Kizza.

Bright Stars trio of Alfred Onek, Aggrey Kirya and Brian Enzama were all cautioned while Ibrahim Tembo was the only player booked on the hosts side.

Victory sees Vipers close the gap on leaders KCCA FC to four points, they remain second placed with 41 points accumulated whereas defeat means Bright Stars have spent 11 games now without a win and are now 10th placed on the log with 24 points.

Vipers SC next travel to Onduparaka FC on Tuesday 26th February whereas Brights Stars will host Tooro United on Wednesday 27th at Mwerwere Champions Stadium.
