Sandra, Nakayenze and Ikwaput named in Crested Cranes squad to face Ethiopia

Sandra Nabweteme will don the Crested Cranes jersey for the first time in four years after she was summoned in Uganda’s provisional squad destined to face Ethiopia in the 2020 Olympic qualifier on April 3rd.

Nabweteme who plays for South West Oklahoma University (SWOSU) in USA has been summoned alongside Yudaya Nakayenze of Seminole Women soccer team and 2017 MVP Fazila Ikwaput who turns out for Kazakhstan side BIIK Kazygurt.

New faces include UCU Lady Cardinals left back Phoebe Banura, Wilmer Nantumbwe, Marget Birabwa, Olila’s duo Marion Amangant and Suzan Atim among others.

Kawempe Muslim ambidextrous left back Grace Aluka returns to the fold after being left out of the team that featured in the first ever regional tour against Kampala select team last week.

The team entered camp on Friday 22nd March in the evening at the FUFA technical center in Njeru and will embark residential training.

The 30-player squad will be trimmed to 20 who will be traveling to Ethiopia on 1st April for the first leg encounter in Addis Ababa.

This will be the first the Crested Cranes will be playing on International level since winning Bronze in the 2018 COSAFA Women’s Championship in South Africa last September.

The winner between Uganda and Ethiopia will take on continental heavyweights Cameroon who already received a bye.
