PREVIEW: CATDA, Luweero United face off in battle for first Big League slot

Luweero United and CATDA FC will battle for the ultimate FUFA Big League in the first play-off final on Saturday 24th October at the FUFA Technical Center in Njeru.

Luweero United are the overall champions of the Buganda Regional League while CATDA FC are the winners from the Kampala Regional League.

Both sides will face off in an anticipated clash where the eventual winners automatically qualify to join the 2020/21 FUFA Big League campaign.

To reach this final hurdle, Luweero United beat Buwambo United 4-2 in post match penalties following a barren draw while CATDA FC defeated Edgar’s Youth 2-0 in the second semi final thanks to Ivan Mayanja’s late brace.

Mayanja will be expected to be the starring figure for CATDA who will also look up to former Express striker Sebuguzi Eric Bucha and goalkeeper Ashraf Mansoor Lubega among others.

Luweero’s captain and goalkeeper Farouk Yawe saved two penalties in the shoot out and one in the normal time and will be expected to once again lead by example.

Joshua Kigozi, Ivan Nambaffu and Yuda Taddeo Ddumba are other players expected to be key as Luweero United quest for promotion.

Calvin Peter Mugerwa the Luweero United coach is optimistic his charges will do the needful to qualify to the second tier.

” We are prepared because we have spent some good time thinking about the Big League so it will be upon us and how we are to contain the pressure to see that we move away with the positive result.

“Finals are usually not anyone’s game but our game, the quality of football in regional teams does not differ but despite having not played with tomorrow’s opponent we are ready for the finals” Mugerwa said.

Joseph Babigumira, the man in the CATDA dug out believes his depleted side will continue to shine and achieve the coveted berth.

” All our players are fully fit for tomorrow’s encounter and we are very ready for the game. Nothing has interrupted us, With only 14 players in the camp our fans should wait for success tomorrow.” He said.

It should noted that CATDA will be without their inspiration midfielder Ronald Sekiganda alongside Frank Senabulya, James Sebanenya and their head coach Richard Amatre who tested positive for COVID-19 early this week.
