Mbarara City eased to a 3-0 victory over local rivals Nyamityobora, thanks to Wol Maqueth, Paul Mucurezi and Jude Ssemugabi goals.
The hosts took an early lead in the 3rd minute, Mucurezi starting the move and setting up Maqueth Wol. Nyamityobora looked like a side that couldn’t overcome the ruthless efficiency of the home side’s attack.
In the 29th minute, Mucurezi doubled the hosts’ advantage and at that stage it looked as though Mbarara City were ready to bury their local rivals under an avalanche of goals.
But the visitors managed to blunt their early impetus, enduring Mbarara City were unable to pour more goals before halftime.
With only 15 minutes to normal time, Mucurezi registered his second assist in the game to feed last year’s Masaza cup top scorer Jude Ssemugabi who dispatched a thunderous finish to beat James Otim.
The result ultimately showed a huge gulf in class between Livingston Mbabazi’s side and their local neighbours. Victory sees Mbarara City stay third placed with 35 points and left the local rivals Nyamityobora marooned in the bottom half of the table with 12 points.
Mbarara City will next travel to Bright Stars on 12th February whereas on the same day Nyamityobora will host Express FC at Kakyeka Stadium.
