Losing debut for Joseph Mpande in Vietnam

Ugandan attacker Joseph Mpande Mbolimbo was handed a bitter welcome in the Vietnamese topflight league (V. League) on Sunday 24th February.

Mpande’s new side Hai Phong Football Club agonizingly lost their season opener 1-0 to Ho Chi Minh FC at the Thong Nhat stadium thanks to a 94th minute winner from Le Hoang Thien.

The former Vipers SC skipper recently joined Hai Phong FC on a two year contract and handed shirt number 10 on arrival.

Mpande has in the past two and half years been plying his trade in Myanmar with Horizon FC, City Yagoon FC and most recently Hantharwady United where scooped the league’s golden boot with 18 goals from.

The Uganda striker will return to action with Hai Phong FC on Friday 1st March against Nam Dinh Football Club.

Mpande was the only Ugandan involved in the league’s opening match day. Godfrey Baba Kizito was not in Sai Gon FC’s 3-1 loss at Nam Dinh FC while Moses Oloya was out of Ha Noi T&T’s 5-0 victory over Than Quang Ninh.
