The Uganda Cricket Association has appointed Lawrence Mahatlane as head coach of the Cricket Cranes.
The 44 year old South African replaces Steve Tikolo who resigned from the role last year.
Mathatlane has put pen to paper on a three year employment contract with the Uganda Cricket Association.
UCA’s CEO Martin Ondeko confirmed Mahatlane’s appointment in a press release that read,
“We are very excited to have a coach of such calibre in the setup. He finds the team on an upward spiral and believe he will continue with the momentum already gathered.”
He will also be a very key figure in setting up the structure for the national teams.”
The South African was the head coach for the SA U-19 side at the 2020 World Cup that was held in his South Africa.
He was also the assistant coach for the Highveld Lions from 2000-2001 before taking up the role of Cricket South Africa U19 head coach in 2014.
Mahatlane is also a Rugby and Cricket TV commentator at the South Africa Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).
During his time as a player, he excelled at Cricket and Rugby.
