KCCA wallop Express to close in on title number 13

KCCA FC fought from a goal down to edge Express FC 3-1 at StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo to move closer to a historic 13th title. The Lugogo outfit only need one point to clinch the championship.

In the 14th minute, Express FC was awarded a penalty following KCCA skipper Timothy Denis Awany’s minimal contact on Disan Galiwango inside the box.

Defender John Revita calmly converted from the spot to fire the Red Eagles into the lead.

At the stroke of halftime, Mustafa Kizza leveled matters from a superbly taken free kick that left Express custodian Tony Kyamera helpless.

In the 62nd minute, Midfielder Muzamir Mutyaba perfectly put the home side into the lead for the first time in the game with another free kick to send the Lugogo faithfuls into party mood.

Allan Kyambadde a former Express FC player put the cherry on the icing of the cake when he extended KCCA FC’s lead off a Sadam Ibrahim Juma defence splitting pass.

Express trio of Isaac Mutanga, Disan Galiwango and Pius Mbidde were booked whereas youngster Sadat Anaku was the only KCCA player cautioned.

Following his heroic performances on the day, Kyambadde was named man of the match.

Victory sees Mike Mutebi’s charges cruise towards a 13th league title and a point against relegation threatened Ndejje University on Tuesday 23rd April will surely confirm them as the 2018/19 Uganda Premier league champions.

Express FC will next host Kirinya Jinja SS at Betway Muteesa II Stadium on Wednesday 24th April. They are 11th on the log with 33 points.
