The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has extended the kick off date for the 2020/21 Uganda Premier League season.
FUFA had initially set 17th October as the kick off date for the new UPL campaign but now the return of topflight Football as been pushed forward for another 30 days.
The development was confirmed by the first vice president Justus Mugisha during the 7th FUFA Super League Limited (FSLL) Annual general meeting that was held on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at Ridar Hotel, Seeta in Mukono.
“Because of Covid-19, our activities were severely affected including the competitions. We are happy that President Yoweri Museveni Kaguta has blessed the partial return of sports. As FUFA, we shall continue engaging Government on the safe return including free testing if need be” Mugisha as quoted by Kawowo Sports.
FUFA also confirmed the Njeru Technical Center in Buikwe district as the venue that will host the FUFA Big league promotional play offs to determine the 16th club that will compete in next season’s topflight division.
Kiboga Young, Kataka, Kitara and Ndejje University are the four clubs that will contest for the remaining slot.
The meeting was attended by all the other 15 Uganda Premier league representatives including new members UPDF FC and MYDA, National Council of Sports Deputy Secretary general in charge of administration Titus Kayigwa, FUFA third vice president Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi, UPL Board chairman Arinaitwe Rugyendo and UPL CEO Bernard Bainamani.
