Former Arsenal FC and Barcelona central midfielder Alexandre Song has joined Djibouti club AS Arta Solar 7 on a two year contract as per multiple reports in Cameroon.
Song has been a free agent since March this year after his contract with FC Sion in Switzerland was terminated for refusing a pay cut during the pandemic.
The 33 year old was expected to join one of the clubs in the Cameroon league but surprisingly opted for a move to Djibouti.
Song played for Arsenal between 2005-12 featuring in a total of 215 games and scoring 10 goals for the Gunners before he moved to Barcelona in Spain.
Besides Arsenal and Barcelona, the Cameroonian midfielder has previously played for Bastia (France), Charlton Athletic and West Ham United (both in England) and Russia’s Rubin Kazan from where he joined FC Sion.
His new side Association Sportive d’Arta is also known as AS Arta Solar 7 after a Djibouti-based solar power company Solar 7 for sponsorship reasons.
The team is coached by Moussa Mara while Tommy Tayoro Nyckoss serves as the club president.
AS Arta Solar 7 will represent Djibouti in the CAF Confederation Cup after successfully defending their Djibouti Cup title last season.
The new Djibouti Premier League season is expected to kick off on 11th November 2020.
Arts Solar 7 is also home to former SC Villa and URA goalkeeper Sulait Luyima.
