Express FC got back to the winning ways with a 3-2 victory over rivals KCCA at Wankulukuku, a result that put a halt on KCCA’s 10-match unbeaten run.

Michael Birungi, Eric Kambale and Disan Galiwango were all on target for the Red Eagles who had gone 4 games without a victory while substitutes Allan Kyambadde and Allan Okello scored for Mike Mutebi’s side.

15 minutes into the game, Birungi drew first blood for the home side with an exquisite header from Badiru Nsubuga cross and subsequently declined from celebrating against his former paymasters.

Express were forced into a goalkeeping change after Ronald Mutebi was harshly fouled by Patrick Kaddu and his place was taken up by Tony Kyamera in the 35th minute.

Likewise at the same moment, Mutebi was also forced to replace an injured Sadam Juma with Allan Kyambadde, a move that later paid off come the second period.

On the start of the second stanza, Mutebi brought on Okello for Steven Sserwadda who had a torrid evening.

Kyambadde brilliantly levelled matters from close range off a sublime Jackson Nunda pass 10 minutes later.

Kambale sprung Express back in the lead with a hard shot from about 12 yards to send the Wankulukuku faithfuls into a bouncing frenzy 20 minutes to time.

That was not all, left back Galiwango seemingly put the game to bed with a curling corner kick that was not well tamed by Charles Lukwago to make it 3-1 moments later.

Okello pulled another back for KCCA with a diving header from a routine Mustafa Kizza delivery with 10 minutes to normal time but his goal was not enough to salvage at least a point.

Lawrence Kigonya was introduced for a limping Birungi in a bid to preserve Express’ slender lead. Tony Odur had also came off at the hour mark with a thigh injury.

Express move two slots higher to the 8th place with 16 points and will play against their eternal rivals SC Villa in the subsequent league fixture on Friday at Namboole.

KCCA who now shift attention to continental engagements with Mtibwa Sugar on Saturday, remain top of the table with 24 points from 11 outings.
