Uganda Cranes central midfielder Mike Azira has officially departed from Chicago Fire FC following the expiration of his employment contract.
Azira is currently part of the Uganda Cranes squad that will face South Sudan in the AFCON qualifiers game on Monday in Kenya.
The 33-year-old midfielder joined Chicago Fire last year in August from Montreal Impact but found playing time hard to come his way.
He was only limited to six appearances in the recently concluded Major League Soccer regular season, five of which were from the bench.
The former SC Villa midfielder leaves Chicago Fire alongside striker CJ Sapong who is also out of contract.
Azira has also previously played for Seattle Sounders, Colorado Rapids, Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, Charleston Battery, Tacoma Defiance, University of Mobile (UOM) Rams and Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders (College).
He has played a total of 130 games in the Major League Soccer scoring two goals and three assists in the process.
He has 11 caps with the Uganda Cranes and represented Uganda in the 2017 and 2019 AFCON final tournament in Gabon and Egypt.
