Tanzanian champions Simba Sports Club opened up their CAF Champions League campaign with a 3-0 humbling of Algerian side Saoura at the National Stadium in Dar-es-salaam.
Uganda Cranes striker Emmanuel Arnold Okwi scored one goal and assisted Meddie Kagere twice in the second half to ensure a comprehensive victory for the Patrick Aussems’ men.
Okwi would have opened the scoring as early as the 20th minute but was unfortunately denied by the woodwork.
The Former SC Villa striker finally broke the deadlock with an exquisite low drive at the stroke of halftime to send the National Stadium into a frenzy.
Moments into the second period, Okwi was the provider of Kagere who tapped home Simba’s second of the day.
Kagere who had came on for the injured John Rafael Bocco, made it 3-0 in the 68th from another Okwi assist.
Okwi’s fellow countryman Murushid Jjuuko was in the central defence alongside Pascal Serge Wawa and walked away with a clean sheet.
Simba currently top the group while last season’s finalists Al Ahly SC are second after defeating Savio Kabugo’s AS Vita 2-0 in the other fixture.
