Egyptian giants Al Ahly are only 90 minutes away from this year’s CAF Champions League final after beating Wydad Casablanca 2-0 at the Mohammed V Complex in Casablanca on Saturday evening.

Goals from Mohammed Magdi Afsha and Tunisian left back Ali Maaloul ensured a comfortable win for the Pitso Mosimane coached side.

Magdi Afsha took the lead as early as the third minute of the game.

Wydad Casablanca squandered a glorious chance to equalize when Baide Aouk’s penalty was saved by goalkeeper Mohammed El Shenawy in the 43rd minute.

Ali Maaloul doubled Al Ahly’s lead from the spot following a handball by defender Ibrahim Najm Eddine in the 60th minute.

The victory was Mosimane’s first over Wydad Casablanca in the six games he has faced them as coach. He had lost four of the previous meetings and only secured a draw early this season.

The second leg of the tie will be played on Friday 23rd October at the Cairo International Stadium.

Newly crowned Moroccan champions Raja Casablanca will host Zamalek SC at the Mohammed V Complex in Casablanca in the first leg of the other second semi final.
