BOXING : Semujju, Shadir, Adinan book slots to Dakar as Nasali ends Baleke’s Olympic dream

The National Olympic trials finals were successfully held on Sunday 5th January at Lugogo Indoor Stadium.

26 Boxers contested for 13 slots to Dakar, Senegal for the Olympic Qualifiers slated for February this year.

The crowd who paid between Shs5000 and Shs10000 for entrance, certainly enjoyed the event that was dubbed “Get off the Plane”.

David Semujju was effective enough to befuddle and neutralise Nkobeza Yusuf in a Middleweight contest. Semujju won silver in the All Africa games which were held in Morocco last year.

The two boxers entertained the Boxing fraternity with an ecstatic fight.

In the Lightweight category, it was payback time as Adinan Yasin outboxed Tukamuhebwa Joshua to book a slot to Dakar.

For starters, Tukamuhebwa overcame Adinan during the All Africa games final eliminations last year.

Masembe Isaac who won sliver in Morocco during the All Africa game last year was too strong for Kyobe Jonah in the Featherweight category.

Bombers captain Shadir Musa beat Stanley Mugerwa with a beautiful performance in the Welterweight category.

In the Flyweight category, masterclass Mubiru Disan overcame Lwanga Muhammed in another entertaining fight.

Energetic and determined Male Joshua superbly knocked down Mukiibi Idris in the first round of the Light Heavyweight.

Swedish based Bwambale Alex explosively finished Kyambadde Emma’s Olympic journey in the Heavyweight fight.

Nasali Doreen ended All Africa Games bronze medalist Baleke Hellen’s Olympic dream in the Women Middleweight fight.

Other results

Geko Solomon ended Muhumuza Hudson’s journey in the Super heavy weight category.

In the Women Lightweight category, Amongin Rebbeca overcame Laker Sarah while Nakalema Emily finished off Nantale Lydia in the women Welterweight fight.

Nanziri Catherine defeated Nakimuli Teddy in the Flyweight category whereas Nali Jalia beat Akello Suzan in the Featherweight women fight.

The Games of the XXXII Olympiad will are scheduled to take place from 24th July to 9th August 2020 in Tokyo, Japan, with preliminary events in some Sports beginning on 22nd July
