Baba Kizito plays left back, Zirintusa scores against Simba: How Ugandan Players performed over the weekend


With a number of football leagues resuming over the concluded weekend, Swift Sports brings you a comprehensive report on how Uganda players performed with their respective clubs.


Timothy Awany and Fahad Bayo both featured in Ashdod SC’s 2-0 win over Hapoel Tel Aviv on Sunday night.

Awany got substituted in the 73rd minute while Bayo came off the bench in the 60th minute. Both players were booked for foul play in the 36th and 65th minute respectively.

William Kizito Luwagga played full-time for Hapoel Kfar Saba who lost 2-0 to Maccabi Petah Tikva on Saturday.


Left back Alex Kakuba played full-time and got booked in the 66th minute as his CD Cova da Piadade lost 4-0 to CD Mafra in the opening round of the Portuguese second tier of Segunda Liga on Saturday.


Defender Bevis Mugabi put up a man of the match performance as Motherwell FC beat St. Johnstone 1-0 to register their first victory of the season in seven games.

Boban Zirintusa Bogere scored the equalizer as Mtibwa Sugar held defending champions Simba SC to a 1-1 draw on Saturday.

Right back Nicholas Wadada played full-time as Azam FC beat Coastal Union 2-0 on Friday thanks to Prince Dube’s brace.

Newly signed Ugandan trio of Cleo Ssetuba, Joseph Zziwa and Ambrose Awio didn’t take part in Biashara United’s 1-0 win over Mwadui.

Midfielder Jackson Kibirige wasn’t part of the Kagera Sugar squad that drew 0-0 with new comers Gwambina FC.


Dennis Masinde Onyango played a starring role as Mamelodi Sundowns edged Bloemfontein Celtic 1-0 in the Nedbank Cup final to complete a domestic treble on Saturday.

Cranes midfielder Mike Azira was an unused substitute as Chicago Fire drew 2-2 with Columbus Crew in the Major League Soccer on Saturday.


Godfrey Baba Kizito played full-time as a left back in Thang Quang Ninh’s 3-2 win over Hong Linh Ha Tinh in the Vietnam Cup quarter finals on Saturday. It should be noted that Baba Kizito has been primarily deployed as a right back this season despite being a midfielder.

Moses Oloya wasn’t in the match day of Ha Noi FC who thumped XSKT Can Tho 7-0 to book a berth in the semi finals.

The Vietnam V.League was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic in July but will officially return on the 26th of September.


Herbert Bockhorn wasn’t part of the Vfl Bochum squad that beat FV Engers 3-0 in the DFB Pokal Cup on Saturday.

Khalid Aucho played 84 minutes before he was withdrawn for Mostafa Shebeita as Misr El Makkasa beat Tanta FC 2-0 in the Egyptian Premier League on Friday.

Aucho was booked for foul play in the 21st minute and took his season tally to six yellow cards.

Midfielder Allan Kyambadde played 58 minutes before he was replaced by Amr Abdel Fattah as El Gounah lost 4-1 to Tala’ea El Gaish on Friday evening.


Midfielder Robert Kakeeto came off the bench for Kasper Kusk in the 82nd minute as 10-men Aalborg BK held on to a goalless draw with Lyngby BK in the opening round of the Denmark Superliga on Sunday.

Moses Opondo played 60 minutes before he was replaced by Aron Emil Thrandarson as OB Odense stunned FC Copenhagen 3-2 on Sunday evening.

Isaac Muleme played 86 minutes and got substituted for Lubos Tusjak as Viktoria Zizkov beat SK Prostejov 2-0 to make it three wins in the three games in the Czech Republic second tier league (FNL).

Striker Alexis Bbakka played 90 minutes before he was substitute in the added time for Rodin Deprim as Umea FC drew 0-0 at Dalkurd FF in the Swedish Superettan (second tier) on Friday.

Defender Mukisa Kenneth Mbayo didn’t take part in Team ThorenGruppen’s (TGFF) 3-2 win over Orebro Syrianska in the Ettan division (third tier) on Sunday.

Viola Nambi Ssebunya wasn’t part of the match day squad as Vaxjo DFF beat Umea IK in the Swedish women’s top-flight league of Damallsvenskan on Saturday.

Ritah Kivumbi came off the bench for Susanne Skalberg in the 30th minute as Mallbackens IF drew 2-2 at Kalmar DFF in the Swedish women’s second tier (Elitettan) on Saturday.

Midfielder Allan Zizinga played 90 minutes before was withdrawn for Isak Ahl Holmstrom in Gute FC’s 3-3 draw with Varmbols FC in the Swedish fourth tier.

Striker Shafik Zzimula also featured for Gute FC but was substituted after 36 minutes for Filip Hagglund.

Ronald Ddungu Mukiibi will be in action on Monday night as Ostersunds FK host Orebro SK in the 18th round of the Swedish top-flight (Allsvenskan).


Defender Joseph Othieno featured for Musongati FC in their 2-0 win over Burundi Sport Dynamic in the Primus League on Saturday.
