The Federation of Rwanda Football Association (FERWAFA) has officially declared APR champions as the 2019-20 Rwandan Premier League was ended prematurely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Rwanda Premier League has been under an indefinite suspension since March 15th as one of the restrictive measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus virus in the country.

APR were leading the league table by the time of the abandonment with 57 points from 23 games, six points more than second placed Rayon Sports who  had played a game more.

Bottom placed Heroes FC and Gicumbi FC who had 16 and 15 points respectively, have been relegated to the second division. Two teams will be promoted from the second tier but after playing playoffs.

Peace Cups for the Men and Women have been declared null and void while the federation hopes the Women league could be completed.

Former Vipers and SC Villa striker Pius Wangi has been the highest scoring Ugandan in the league with 9 goals for Sunrise FC.

Espoir’s Fred Kyambadde and Rashid Mutebi of Etincelles scored eight goals apiece.

Uganda, South Sudan, Kenya and Ethiopia have all ended their leagues prematurely, Burundi already restarted their Primus League while the Tanzanian League will resume early next month.
