The fifth edition of the Kabaka birthday run has officially been launched today at Bulange, Mengo. This year’s run is slated for 7th April with over 60,000 people expected to participate.
The event was graced by the Buganda Premier Charles Peter Mayiga, Airtel managing director Mr. V.G.Somasekhar, Minister for Sports,Youths and leisure Henry Ssekabembe Kiberu and other officials from the Buganda Kingdom.
Katikiro Charles Peter Mayiga called upon fellow Ugandans to participate in the Kabaka birthday run. He also thanked Airtel Uganda for supporting the development of Ugandan communities.
“I call upon fellow Ugandans to come and participate in the Kabaka birthday run because we are celebrating a heritage. In life good health and hope keep us live a positive life and with poor health, there is not much that one can do.”
Kabaka’s birthday help us celebrate what we are and so it’s not all about eating and drinking but a sign of exhibiting the love for our Kingdom.
The Kingdom is very thankful to all our partners Airtel and other partners who give us a hand and we as an institution we are keen and honour them.”
Rwenzori mineral water has also injected over 111.5million in the event. The participants will be flagged off in Lubiri Mengo by His Majesty the Kabaka for the 5km, 10kms and 21km routes.
Tickets will be on sale starting today at Shs10000 and participants are encouraged to register at Bulange Mengo, Airtel Shop New park, Airtel Shop Ben Kiwanuka street and Airtel Shop Thobani Building.
The Kabaka’s 64th birthday celebrations will be held in Ndejje, Bulemeezi on the 13th of April.
